The City of Portland, through the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), is launching a grant opportunity for gun violence reduction and prevention efforts.
The goal of The Safer Summer Portland Grant Program, is to reduce gun violence in both near and long term. The Office of Violence Prevention is prioritizing efforts in Cully, Hazelwood, Eliot, Powellhurst-Gilbert, and/or areas known for high rates of gun violence. While the afore mentioned neighborhoods are prioritized, applicants in all neighborhoods of the Portland Metropolitan area are encouraged to apply. Our shared public health model demonstrates this goal can be achieved by implemented evidenced based violence prevention strategies in an upstream (primary preventions) lane of prevention.
Examples of programs and activities that can be supported through this grant:
· Preventative programs, workshops, camps and events;
· Flexible funds for direct community assistance/services;
· Youth and Adult Mediation & Mentoring programs
· Arts & Culture or Recreational Violence preventative programs
· Aftercare support funds for families of victims; and
· Capacity building in small contractors to provide services.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 17, 2024 at 5:00pm.
